I tore it all down. Here is what came next.

By spring of last year, I had canceled every subscription, closed every tab, and stopped completely. Not a pivot. Not a rebrand. A full stop. Here is what happened when I finally gave myself permission to do nothing.

On burning out, walking away, and coming back with a clearer head and a better plan.

By spring of last year, I had canceled my website, every business subscription, and just stopped. Not a “strategic pause.” Not a rebrand. A full stop.

I was done. Burnt out. Pulled in every direction at once, buried under pressure I had piled on myself, plus the imagined weight of what I was sure my husband must have been thinking. Spoiler: he was not thinking what I thought he was thinking. He was fine. I was not.

So I did nothing. I watched comfort TV. I planned local outings on the weekends. I did not enter my home office for months because I had mentally turned it into the room where failure lived. Every time I passed by it I thought about everything that had not worked, everything I had built and torn apart and rebuilt and torn apart again. It was easier to just not look at it.

FOUR YEARS, FOUR VERSIONS, ONE LESSON

When I started this business in 2021, I wanted to be an operations consultant. That was the whole plan. Clear, simple, aligned with 20-plus years of experience reducing inefficiency in every organization I had ever touched.

Then I started chasing sales instead of building a business. I needed revenue, so I followed whatever looked like it was working for someone else. I switched offers. I rebuilt websites. I cycled through three different domains. I convinced myself that the reason I was not getting traction was the offer, so I changed the offer. Then changed it again. I ended up as a website designer for authors, which is about as far from operations consulting as you can get.

The whole time, I kept saying out loud, to anyone who would listen, that what I really wanted was to be an operations consultant. And I kept not doing it. I was too busy chasing the next thing to build the actual thing.

That pattern, the chasing, the pivoting, the pressure, led directly to burnout so severe that I could not work at all in 2025. I did not enter that office. I did not think about my business. I healed. Slowly, and without a plan, which is extremely out of character for me.

WHAT THE QUIET ACTUALLY GAVE ME

Here is what I did not expect: the time away was not wasted. It was where all the real thinking happened.

I stopped performing productivity and started actually thinking about what I wanted. Not what looked good, not what seemed to be working in someone else’s Instagram feed, but what I actually wanted to do and what I was genuinely good at.

The answer had not changed. It had never changed. Operations consulting. Identifying the inefficiencies that are quietly bleeding time and money out of a business. Getting processes out of founders’ heads and into documented systems. Helping business owners stop being the bottleneck in their own company.

I have been doing this for over two decades, in various roles, for various organizations. I eliminated redundant roles. I reduced billing time in a physician’s practice from hours to minutes. I have turned full-time jobs into part-time jobs through sheer operational efficiency. This is not a pivot. This is what I have always done.

What the downtime gave me was the space to distill everything I know into a repeatable, teachable method. That became the Break Your Own Bottleneck Method and the 4R Optimization Framework, a five-step process designed to help business owners identify the root cause of what is slowing them down and actually fix it with a 90-day action plan.

THE REBUILD LOOKS DIFFERENT THIS TIME

I came back with a list of things I was not going to do. That list matters as much as the things I am doing, maybe more.

No free discovery calls. My time is worth something, and I expect it to be treated accordingly. If someone needs a starting point, they can book a 30-minute Operational Diagnostic Session. That is not a sales call. That is me actually doing work and them actually paying for it.

No content production for the sake of the algorithm. I will post when I have something worth saying and when posting serves my business. I am not producing graphics and thought leadership content as a full-time unpaid job anymore.

No more shiny object syndrome. I have four offers and a digital product coming later this year. They are fully developed, the materials are built, the workflows are mapped and tested. I am not rebuilding the menu every quarter.

Maximum client limits per offer per month. I am not scaling by grinding. I am scaling by being intentional about capacity.

This rebuild is slow on purpose. The last one was fast and frantic and it fell apart. This one is being built on a foundation that can actually hold weight.

THE PART NOBODY TALKS ABOUT

Burnout from entrepreneurship is not just about working too many hours. It is about the sustained mismatch between what you are doing and what you actually care about. I spent years working hard on things I did not particularly want. That is exhausting in a way that sleep does not fix.

Coming back with clarity about what I actually want to be doing changes the energy entirely. I am not dreading the work. I am not performing enthusiasm for an audience. I am just doing the thing I have always been good at, for people who genuinely need it.

If you have been running your business in a way that is burning you out, the problem probably is not that you need a better productivity system or a new offer. The problem is probably that you are doing the wrong things and calling it hustle.

The top operational challenge I hear most often from business owners is that everything still runs through them. If that is where you are, I want to know: what is the one thing that, if it were off your plate tomorrow, would change how your whole day feels?
